The First Showcase - Seven Sisters Festival

Saturday 13th April 2013

The second Seven Sisters Festival commemorated the first Birthing the Mother Showcase. The Chai Tent provided a perfect temple space for the work to be shared and there was not a dry eye on finale'.  There were 10 women involved in the project (and a 4 week old little baby Girl).  The BTM vision had been gestating for nine years in Nel's womb, had six weeks labouring with the cast, so the birth of the First Showcase was nothing short of an orgasmic experience! Welcome to the world BTM!

The Second Showcase  - The Birth House Geelong

Saturday 25th May 2013

The Birth House in a freestanding resource centre in the heart of Geelong that provides women and families with independent child birth information and support for birth. A pregnant woman can choose to have her baby at the Birth House with independent midwives and doulas present. This centre stands alone with the callibre of services it provides in the state and in Australia. The money raised from BTM2 went to the Birth House, Geelong.

The showcase took on a completely different format to the first, utilising the rich and fertile spaces of the Birth House. The 8 extremely bold and flexible Willing Women (and now a ten week old!) performed 2 showcases

con-currently within an intimate setting that created a  connective, confronting and healing space.

The Third Showcase  - Prana House

Saturday 13th July 2013

Wow. What a powerful showcase. Raw. Gutsy. Hilarious. Triumphant. Dark. Completely vulnerable. The Willing Women left no stone unturned as they travelled from the primordial soup of their matrilineages to what the core of their wombs. Provocative. Ancient. Liberating. Confronting. Healing. Revealing. Described as "ecstatic torture" from an audience member, Prana House was the most sublime setting for a Showcase. The audience left profoundly moved. Our Artist-in-Residence Ember Fairbairn continued with the ongoing canvas piece she began in BTM1. Her talent is trancendental.

The money raised from BTM3 went to the Bleeding Art Bleeding Heart Project

which is a Women's Experiential Community Arts Project to express their relationship with their wombs and menstruation in an art form. Bleeding Art Bleeding Heart Community Art's Project will create a 'Red Tent' for women in a Red Tepee that is lined with a patchwork of women's artistic reflections of their relationship to their womb or menstrual cycle. There are 89 artists inolved internationall and locally. The tipi will travel Australia as an exhibition space and then become a talking space women and girls about positive menstraution.

With the two causes combined, the energy of the Showcase was palpably potent.

When was your last blind date?

BIRTHING THE MOTHER supports a progressive system of economics where the balance of exchange rests upon the initiative of sovereign beings paying-it-forward. Basically, if you know it was good for you, sharing the exchange of goodwill and passing it on creates a groundswell of positive change. It's the 100th monkey we're talking about.  BTMs mission is to bring a showcase to every country, every community centre so that women everyewhere can experience the empowering nature of sharing their stories, their body wisdom and gift it to those baring witness. The more connected we are on the planet the better for all and the next seven generations.

Donating essentially bridges the gap between the socio- economic divide that oftens marginalises the most vulnerable people of the community.  No one is a 'have-not'.  We support every person finding their balance in the Universal Law of exchange by giving freely in gratitude so that there's more to go round. Those receiving a donated ticket offer their equivalent service to a BTM event or to an affiliated charity.
